Best Campgrounds for Class A RVs

Class A motorhomes span RVFitFinder's own 21-45 ft range — site availability falls from 89% at 30 ft to 57% at 45 ft, but hookup odds actually rise with length. Here's the real breakdown.

Class A motorhomes cover RVFitFinder's own established range of 21 to 45 ft — the widest span of any RV type on the site's RV type guide. That range means "will my Class A fit" has no single answer: across the 31,420 real campsites RVFitFinder tracks nationally, 89% (28,047) confirm a maximum length of 30 ft or more, but that share drops to 57% (17,932) once you're asking about a 45 ft diesel pusher at the top of the range.

How the odds change across the Class A range

Site availability falls steadily as length climbs through the Class A range: 95% of tracked sites (29,726) confirm 25 ft or more, 89% (28,047) confirm 30 ft, 80% (25,020) confirm 35 ft, 70% (21,857) confirm 40 ft, and 57% (17,932) confirm the full 45 ft. A short Class A near the bottom of the range can camp almost anywhere; a long diesel pusher near the top is working with roughly four in ten fewer sites.

Where the odds are best for a large Class A

For a Class A around 35 ft — a common length for gas-chassis models — Missouri (2,557 sites), Oklahoma (2,419), Texas (2,175), Arkansas (1,886), Kansas (1,708), and Iowa (1,202) have the most tracked sites confirmed at that length or longer. On a percentage basis, Iowa (98% of its 1,231 tracked sites), Illinois (96%), Texas (96%), Mississippi (96%), and Alabama (95%) give a large Class A the best odds of any state with meaningful RVFitFinder coverage.

A genuine surprise: bigger rigs have slightly better hookup odds

Hookup confirmation doesn't fall off as length increases — it actually rises. Just 51% of 25 ft+ sites have a confirmed hookup, but that climbs to 53% at 30 ft, 55% at 35 ft, 56% at 40 ft, and 58% at 45 ft — eight points above the system-wide 50% hookup-confirmation rate. The sites long enough for a large Class A skew toward more developed campgrounds, mostly U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lake facilities, which tend to have full hookups more often than older, shorter National Park Service loops.

Private RV parks that call themselves big-rig-friendly

Public campgrounds aren't the only option. Of the 34 active parks in RVFitFinder's RV Park Intelligence database, 13 (38%) are flagged big-rig-friendly, spanning Florida, Utah, Texas, Arizona, California, Tennessee, South Carolina, and New Jersey — and 12 of those 13 also confirm full hookups, useful for a Class A that wants a resort-style stay instead of a public lake loop.

Check your exact rig

A type-wide range is a starting point, not a booking decision — the underlying campsite data has no per-vehicle-type field, so no single number can say "will my Class A fit" without knowing your actual length. Use the 35-foot RV campsites page, the 45-foot RV campsites page, or the RVFitFinder tool to check your Class A's exact length against real, individual sites before you reserve.

FAQ

How long are Class A motorhomes?

21 to 45 feet, per RVFitFinder's own RV type guide — the widest length range of any RV type, which is why campsite availability for a Class A varies so much depending on exactly where your rig falls in that range.

What percentage of campsites fit a Class A RV?

It depends on length: 89% of RVFitFinder's 31,420 tracked campsites confirm 30 ft or more, but that falls to 57% for the largest 45-ft Class A diesel pushers.

Which states have the best odds for a large Class A?

For rigs around 35 ft, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, and Iowa have the most tracked sites at that length or longer; Iowa, Illinois, Texas, Mississippi, and Alabama have the best percentage odds among states with meaningful coverage.

Do longer Class A rigs actually have worse hookup odds?

No — the opposite. Hookup confirmation rises from 51% at 25 ft+ to 58% at 45 ft+, well above the system-wide 50% rate, because the sites long enough for a large Class A skew toward more developed campgrounds.
