Best Campgrounds for 45 Foot RVs
17,932 of RVFitFinder's 31,420 tracked campsites (57%) confirm a 45ft+ maximum length. Here's where they actually are.
Of the 31,420 real campsites RVFitFinder tracks nationally, 17,932 (57%) confirm a maximum vehicle length of 45 ft or more — sourced directly from each site's own Recreation.gov listing, not estimated or rounded up from a shorter number. That's a meaningfully smaller share than at 40 ft, and it isn't spread evenly: some states have both far more 45-foot-plus sites and far better odds than others.
Where 45-foot-plus sites are most common
By raw count, Texas (1,980), Oklahoma (1,932), Missouri (1,843), Kansas (1,423), and Arkansas (1,137) each have well over 1,000 tracked sites confirmed at 45 ft or longer — together accounting for nearly half of all 45ft+ sites RVFitFinder tracks nationally. All five are central U.S. states with heavy reservoir and lake camping, where campground loops tend to run longer and wider than in older, tighter national park loops.
Raw counts don't tell you your odds at a given campground, though. On a percentage basis, Iowa leads with 91% of its 1,231 tracked sites confirmed at 45 ft or more, followed by Nebraska (89% of 208) and Texas (87% of 2,268). Arkansas is the outlier among the top-5-by-count states: despite having 1,137 confirmed 45ft+ sites, that's only 43% of its 2,644 tracked sites — worse odds than several states with far fewer total 45-foot-plus sites.
How concentrated is this nationally?
39 states have at least one tracked site confirmed at 45 ft or longer, across 460 distinct campgrounds. A 45-foot rig isn't limited to a handful of "big rig" destinations — but it also isn't a safe assumption at any given campground, which is exactly why checking the individual site, not just the state, matters before booking.
What else to check besides length
Of the 17,932 sites confirmed at 45 ft or more nationally, 10,428 (58%) also have a confirmed hookup and 1,423 (8%) are pull-through — and that mix varies sharply by state. In Texas, 1,953 of 1,980 forty-five-foot-plus sites (99%) have a confirmed hookup. Iowa is the opposite case: despite having the best raw odds of fitting a 45-foot rig anywhere in the country, only 70 of its 1,118 confirmed 45ft+ sites (6%) have a confirmed hookup — meaning the state with the easiest length fit is also one of the least likely to offer power, water, or sewer at that site.
Check your exact rig
State and national numbers are a starting point, not a booking decision. Use the 45-foot RV campsites page or the RVFitFinder tool to see the real, individual sites behind these numbers — including the specific campground, driveway type, and hookup status — before you commit to a reservation.
