Best Campgrounds for 20 Foot RVs

31,094 of RVFitFinder's 31,420 tracked campsites (99%) confirm a 20ft+ maximum length. Here's the small minority that don't, and where the real odds get worse.

A small vintage travel trailer parked at a compact coastal campsite, typical of the wide range of campgrounds where a 20-foot RV comfortably fits

Of the 31,420 real campsites RVFitFinder tracks nationally, 31,094 (99%) confirm a maximum vehicle length of 20 ft or more — sourced directly from each site's own Recreation.gov listing, not estimated or rounded up. At this length, campsite fit is almost never the limiting factor for a small trailer, camper van, or truck camper. The more useful question is where the small minority of exceptions are, and what else is worth checking before you book.

Where a 20-foot RV won't fit

326 tracked sites nationwide — roughly 1 in 100 — are rated below 20 ft, spread across 29 states. That's a small share nationally, but it isn't evenly distributed. In Vermont, 20 of the state's 66 tracked sites (30%) are too short for a 20-foot rig, a far worse ratio than the 1% national rate. Michigan (29 of 388 sites, 7.5%) and New Mexico (18 of 297, 6.1%) also run well above average. By contrast, high-volume states like Oklahoma and Arkansas have more such sites in raw terms (42 and 32) but they represent well under 2% of each state's tracked inventory — the exception, not the rule.

States where the odds are worse than average

The table below ranks states by the share of their own tracked sites that are too short for a 20-foot RV, limited to states with meaningful sample size (20+ tracked sites). A high percentage here means checking the individual site before booking matters more than usual, even though a 20-foot rig clears almost every site nationally.

Driveway type and hookups matter more than length

Among the 31,094 confirmed 20ft+ sites, 27,532 (89%) are back-in and only 2,668 (9%) are pull-through — worth knowing if maneuvering matters more to you than raw length. Hookups are the bigger gamble: just 15,492 (50%) of 20ft+ sites have a confirmed hookup, while 8,048 (26%) are confirmed dry camping and the remainder is unconfirmed in the source data. For a rig this size, hookups and driveway type — not length — are usually the real filter that narrows your options.

619 campgrounds, 44 states

20ft+ sites aren't concentrated in a handful of destinations: 619 distinct campgrounds across 44 states have at least one confirmed site at this length or longer. For a rig this size, availability is rarely the bottleneck — hookups, driveway type, and the handful of state-level exceptions above are what's actually worth checking.

National and state numbers are a starting point, not a booking decision. Use the 20-foot RV campsites page or the RVFitFinder tool to see the real, individual sites behind these numbers — including the specific campground, driveway type, and hookup status — before you commit to a reservation.
